DCMF: The storming of Al-Jazeera bureau in Taez is a violation of pressfreedom

The Yemeni military force belonging to the Higher Security Command in Taiz, southern Yemen, stormed Al Jazeera bureau in the city on Tuesday and ordered its closure according to Al Jazeera Media Network.

Al Jazeera said in a statement that the office was ordered shut by soldiers for reasons that were not made clear.

The Network condemned the forced closure of its bureau in Taiz and called on the authorities to reverse the decision.

Doha Centre for Media Freedom joins other organizations in denouncing the storming and forced closer of Al Jazeera’s bureau in Taiz and demanding the authorities to reverse the decision and allow Al Jazeera's journalists to carry out their professional responsibilities duties without any hindrance or intimidation.

DCMF believes that such practices are clear targeting of freedom of opinion and expression and violation of the role of local and international media outlets in conveying facts professionally and objectively.

The center calls on the authorities in Taez to reverse the decision, and to show a positive attitude in dealing with various media outlets.
