Saudi Arabia sentences human rights defender to six years in jail

 

 

 

 

A court in Saudi Arabia sentenced a prominent human rights defender to six years in jail yesterday for criticizing Saudi authorities.

Issa Al-Nukhaifi, a social activist who has been detained for more than a year for criticizing the government’s policy of displacing families from the Saudi-Yemeni borders for security measures without adequate compensation, was sentenced to 6 years in jail according to Al-Qst human rights organization.

Al-Nukhaifi was arrested by the security forces in the Jizan region on 18 December 2016 and has been in detention since then as the Gulf Centre for Human Rights reported.
